The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced the immediate enforcement of a new gold trading licensing regime aimed at sanitizing the sector and ensuring only legally recognized individuals participate in the industry.
According to Mr. Gyamfi, only Ghanaians who have duly applied and obtained official licenses from GoldBod will henceforth be permitted to engage in gold trading within the country.
He warned that any individual or entity found trading in gold without the appropriate GoldBod license will be committing a criminal offense and will face prosecution.
"This new directive is part of our broader efforts to formalize Ghana’s gold trade, clamp down on illegal activities, and protect national resources," he stated.
GoldBod’s move is expected to bring greater transparency, accountability, and regulation to Ghana’s gold sector, which has long been plagued by illicit trade and lack of oversight.
