GNFS Swiftly Contain Fire at Korle Bu Medical School Laboratory, Nearby Buildings Saved
Swift response by Ghana National Fire Service prevents spread to nearby buildings; cause of blaze under investigation

A late-night fire that broke out at the Medical Laboratory Buildings of the Korle Bu Medical School was swiftly contained by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preventing extensive damage to adjacent facilities.
The fire, which was reported at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, engulfed parts of the Accounts Office, Stores, Administration, and Archives sections of the laboratory. Firefighters from four GNFS stations , Regional Headquarters Substation, Accra City, National Headquarters Substation, and Ministries Fire Station responded promptly to the distress call.
The blaze was brought under control by 12:43 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:10 a.m. on Wednesday. No injuries were reported.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Office of the Greater Accra Region GNFS, the service praised its personnel for their swift and coordinated efforts, which prevented the fire from spreading to nearby critical facilities, including the Allied Sciences Building, the Diabetic Centre, and the Stores Annex.
"This was a highly sensitive location, and we are proud of our teams for their dedication and professionalism in managing the situation," the statement read.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and damage assessments are underway. Authorities are urging the public to stay calm as the incident is being thoroughly reviewed to determine the origin and prevent future occurrences.
The GNFS has reiterated its commitment to protecting life and property, and thanked the public for their cooperation during the emergency response.
