GH¢49.1m NSB Trial Adjourned Again; Lawyer Atta Akyea Alleges Bias, Vows Legal Showdown

By Joylinda Laryea / July 3rd, 2025

The high-profile GH¢49.1 million corruption trial involving former National Service Board (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu Boahene, has once again been adjourned this time to July 18, 2025 prompting strong reactions from the defense team.

The court indicated that the adjournment is to allow for a comprehensive decision on the case. However, Lead Counsel for Mr. Adu Boahene, Hon. Atta Akyea, has accused the prosecution of deliberately stalling proceedings in a bid to secure a conviction.

“Why are they giving this case special treatment, as if someone is in an indecent haste to send my client to jail?” Lawyer Atta Akyea questioned, expressing frustration over what he described as “calculated delays and procedural unfairness.”

The veteran lawyer further accused the court and the Office of the Attorney General of suppressing key evidence. According to him, attempts are being made to restrict access to financial documents and bank records from previous administrations, while granting full access to those under the current Akufo-Addo-led government.

“A court of law should not aid evidence gagging and we would challenge it,” Atta Akyea declared. “Justice must be even-handed, and we will not allow selective transparency to undermine this trial.”

The case, which has already seen multiple adjournments, centers on allegations of financial misconduct during Adu Boahene’s tenure as NSB head. The accused has consistently denied all wrongdoing.

The adjournment and the defense counsel’s strong statements have reignited public debate over the fairness and independence of Ghana’s judicial processes in politically sensitive cases.

All eyes now turn to July 18, when the court is expected to make critical rulings that could shape the direction of the trial.
