ECOWAS Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Development at UN General Assembly
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) actively participated in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), which took place from 23rd to 30th September 2025 in New York.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) actively participated in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), which took place from 23rd to 30th September 2025 in New York.
The delegation was led by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, who joined global leaders under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond in the Service of Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
During the week-long assembly, ECOWAS engaged in the General Debate, high-level side events, and bilateral meetings with international partners. Central to the discussions were pressing issues for the West African region, including peace and security, sustainable development, financing for development, climate change, and inclusive governance.
The regional body’s participation highlighted its unwavering commitment to regional integration and multilateral cooperation while promoting the aspirations of West Africa on the global stage.
