The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers held an Extraordinary Session on 9 October 2025 at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, to address key institutional matters, with a particular focus on recruitment across its institutions.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers held an Extraordinary Session on 9 October 2025 at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, to address key institutional matters, with a particular focus on recruitment across its institutions.
The high-level meeting aimed to review staffing policies and ensure transparency, efficiency and equitable representation in the recruitment process within ECOWAS bodies.
In a significant development on the sidelines of the session, H.E. Mr Kalilou Sylla was officially sworn in as the new Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture. He takes over from H.E. Massandjé Touré-Litsé of Côte d’Ivoire.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional governance and human resource mechanisms to better serve the regional bloc’s development and integration agenda.
