The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, with support from the European Union (EU) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, has convened a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee for the Regional Clean Cooking Action in West Africa (ReCCAWA).
The meeting took place on 29th September 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria.
The €15.5 million ReCCAWA Programme is designed to increase access to clean, efficient, and affordable cooking energy solutions across the ECOWAS region. The initiative seeks to address health, environmental, and climate challenges associated with traditional cooking methods while promoting sustainable energy use.
The programme is co-funded by the European Union and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its implementation is being led by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the Spanish Cooperation (AECID), in partnership with Energising Development (EnDev).
ReCCAWA will run for four years and is expected to accelerate the adoption of clean cooking technologies and strengthen regional cooperation in the sector. The Steering Committee meeting focused on coordination, implementation strategies, and progress planning to ensure the programme delivers impact across member states.
