The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, in partnership with key stakeholders, has concluded a week-long series of consultations aimed at advancing the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda in Senegal.
The engagements were held from September 22nd to 27th, 2025, across the regions of Matam, Tambacounda, and Kédougou. Participants included government officials, youth leaders, civil society organisations, and community representatives.
The consultations focused on addressing critical challenges affecting young people, including unemployment, irregular migration, insecurity along border communities, and limited youth involvement in governance and decision-making.
Insights gathered from the sessions will contribute to the formulation of Senegal’s National Youth Action Plan (NAP) on Youth, Peace and Security. The process will be driven by a National Task Force and Steering Committee, with technical support from the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and funding from the ECOWAS Peace Fund.
The initiative reaffirms ECOWAS’ commitment to empowering young people and enhancing their role in peacebuilding, security governance, and sustainable development across the region.
