Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially announced his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, Dr. Adutwum expressed his readiness to lead the party into the future, touting his experience in education reform, leadership, and governance as key strengths he brings to the table.
“I believe the time has come to serve Ghana in a bigger capacity. With the foundation we’ve laid in education and the potential we have as a country, I am confident that under the right leadership, we can transform our nation for the better,” he stated.
Dr. Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, played a significant role in implementing the Free SHS policy and championing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education across the country during his tenure.
His entry into the NPP flagbearer race adds a new dynamic to the competition, with many political analysts already predicting a keen contest as the party prepares to retain power in 2028.
