Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced Thursday.
The charges relate to allegations from three separate women, involving incidents that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.
According to the CPS, the 31-year-old Ghanaian international faces:
•Three counts of rape involving a woman in her 20s in July 2021,
•Two counts of rape involving a second woman in February 2022, and
•One count of sexual assault involving a third woman in May 2022.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the player was first arrested in July 2022 and had been under investigation since then. He has not entered a plea.
Partey, who has not been suspended by Arsenal, remains on the club’s books as preseason preparations begin. The Premier League side has yet to issue an official statement regarding the charges.
A court hearing is expected in the coming weeks. If convicted, Partey could face a significant prison sentence under UK law.
The case has sparked widespread reaction across social media and in the football community, with renewed calls for clubs to take a firmer stance on allegations of violence against women.
