Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has publicly criticized the party's national leadership, demanding a formal disassociation letter from the party over recent anti-Muslim remarks made by an unnamed NPP Member of Parliament.
According to Abronye, the MP’s statement suggesting that a Muslim cannot become leader of the party is divisive and dangerous, and he finds it troubling that the party has yet to officially distance itself from such claims.
“Just as the party quickly issued a letter to disassociate from my comments on Archbishop Duncan-Williams, I expect the same level of urgency in condemning and disassociating from this MP’s unacceptable statement,” Abronye stated.
He warned that selective responses from the party leadership risk creating the impression of bias and hypocrisy, especially on sensitive matters involving religion and inclusion.
The call comes as the NPP faces growing internal scrutiny and calls for tolerance and unity among its diverse membership base. The party’s leadership has yet to respond to Abronye’s demand.
