Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, has raised concerns over Ghana’s recent decision to abstain from an international vote on LGBTQ+ issues, questioning the rationale behind the government's position.
Speaking, Hon. Boamah expressed his dissatisfaction with the abstention, stating that the move contradicts Ghana’s well-established cultural values as enshrined in the Constitution.
He indicated that he intends to formally file a question to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and other relevant government representatives, demanding a clear explanation for the decision.
“These are cultural values clearly established in the Constitution,” Hon. Boamah asserted. “Taking a firm stance by voting against it would have sent the right message.”
The MP’s statement has stirred conversation within the House, as many lawmakers and constituents continue to monitor Ghana’s diplomatic posture on LGBTQ+ matters amid heightened public interest and ongoing legislative debates surrounding the issue.
