Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has sparked widespread reaction after openly praising the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its handling of the economy. Speaking in an interview, Bempah admitted that he now feels “shy” when reflecting on how well the NDC has managed Ghana’s economic affairs compared to the NPP’s record.
“Today I get shy when I see how well NDC has managed the economy. We had our people saying they knew how to arrest the dollar and give the key to the IGP. But it got to a time, our ‘Obiba JK’ was dodging questions on the economy,” Bempah confessed, in a statement that has since gone viral.
His comments reference past promises by the NPP to stabilize the cedi and strengthen the economy, promises that many critics argue were not fulfilled during the party’s tenure.
The statement has been welcomed by members of the NDC, who see it as rare but honest acknowledgment of their economic achievements. Meanwhile, it has sparked debate within NPP circles about the party’s economic messaging and future strategies.
Political analysts say Bempah’s remarks could mark a turning point in how the NPP engages the public on economic matters ahead of the next elections.
