Ghana Will Support NPP for Its Undying Principles, Not for Any One Man - John Agyekum Kufuor
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on NPP members to uphold the party’s core principles instead of using money to influence votes. He warned that voters may take the money but still reject candidates who fail to serve them. Kufuor emphasized that Ghana supports the NPP because of its enduring values, not because of any one individual.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reminded members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Ghana’s enduring support for the party is rooted in its timeless principles, not in the personality of any single individual.
Addressing concerns over the increasing monetization of politics in the country, Mr. Kufuor condemned the growing trend where politicians attempt to buy votes rather than serve the genuine needs of the people. He noted that many Ghanaians are frustrated by unemployment and economic challenges, and as a result, resent the transactional nature of politics today.
“Everybody is angry. There is so much unemployment. Today you get to some position and manage to get some money. When it comes to vote, you want to come and give me money , go and vote for me. Well, because I am angry, I may take. But in my mind, this guy I used to know, we used to share korkor a'yatutu together. Now he is coming to buy me so he would continue to enjoy, and me I won’t even have access to him,” he lamented.
Mr. Kufuor warned that such tactics often fail, as voters may accept money but ultimately vote according to their conscience. “So they will chop your money, then they go and vote against you. Then you turn around to blame them. You must blame yourselves,” he stressed.
He urged politicians to focus on delivering quality service and adhering to the high principles upon which the party was founded. “When we are talking party, we must know the principles we subscribe to, not the person who on a temporary basis has been given the vote. Yes, Danquah espoused democracy, but the party is not Danquah. Busia did, but the party is not Busia. Kufuor gave the chance, but Kufuor is not the party. Not any one man is the principles , the undying principles,” he stated.
Mr. Kufuor concluded by assuring that if the NPP remains true to these enduring values, Ghana will continue to stand with the party. “Ghana will support the NPP not for any one man, but for the undying principles of the party,” he said.
