Ghana has been ranked as the third country with the most faithful partners globally, and the most faithful in Africa, according to a new ranking based on global divorce rates.
The data, sourced from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations, and the World Population Review, places Ghana just behind India and Vietnam. The West African nation recorded a divorce rate of 0.4%, tying with Kenya but edging ahead based on broader relationship stability indicators.
India topped the global list with an impressively low divorce rate of 0.1%, followed by Vietnam at 0.2%. Other African countries in the top 10 include Kenya (0.4%) and South Africa (0.5%).
The full list of the top 10 countries with the most faithful partners, based on low divorce rates, includes:
1. India 🇮🇳 – 0.1%
2. Vietnam 🇻🇳 – 0.2%
3. Ghana 🇬🇭 – 0.4%
4. Kenya 🇰🇪 – 0.4%
5. South Africa 🇿🇦 – 0.5%
6. Iran 🇮🇷 – 1.0%
7. Egypt 🇪🇬 – 1.1%
8. Indonesia 🇮🇩 – 1.2%
9. Romania 🇷🇴 – 1.2%
10. Brazil 🇧🇷 – 1.4%
Analysts say the findings reflect strong cultural values around marriage, family cohesion, and religious influence in many of the listed countries - especially in Ghana, where traditional values continue to shape social behavior.
The report has sparked pride and conversation across social media platforms, with many Ghanaians celebrating the country's recognition for relationship fidelity.
Experts, however, caution that while divorce rates can be an indicator of relationship stability, they may also be influenced by socio-economic and legal factors, and do not necessarily reflect the full picture of marital happiness or personal fulfillment.
Nonetheless, Ghana’s inclusion on the global list is being hailed as a positive reflection of the country’s commitment to family values.
