ECOWAS Election Mission Engages Guinea-Bissau’s Electoral Commission Ahead of November 23 Polls

The ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM) has held a key round of pre-election consultations with the National Election Commission (CNE) as Guinea-Bissau prepares for its Presidential and Legislative Elections scheduled for November 23, 2025.
The meeting, led by CNE Acting Chairman Mr. N’Pabi Cabi and the ECOWAS team headed by Serigne Mamadou Ka, Acting Head of the Electoral Assistance Division (EAD), focused on assessing the Commission’s operational preparedness. Discussions examined logistical arrangements, institutional safeguards, and mechanisms put in place to guarantee transparency, credibility, and inclusiveness throughout the electoral process.
Mr. Ka reaffirmed ECOWAS’ mandate to observe the elections with strict neutrality and full respect for Guinea-Bissau’s sovereignty. He emphasized that the Mission’s role is to support a peaceful, credible process in line with regional norms and democratic principles. In response, Mr. Cabi reiterated the CNE’s commitment to conducting elections in accordance with national laws and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with ECOWAS to strengthen public confidence.
The Medium- and Short-Term Observation Mission was deployed by ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray under the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. As part of its broader engagement, the Mission is holding consultations with government institutions, political parties, civil society groups, security agencies, and international partners.
ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau’s democratic consolidation, peace, and stability as the country moves toward the crucial November polls.
