The Attorney General is set to press charges against Mr. Peter Mensah, husband of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Executive Director, Gifty Oware-Mensah, along with eight other vendors linked to a major ghost names scandal at the NSS.
According to the Attorney General, the accused persons are believed to have played key roles in the inflation of personnel numbers on the NSS payroll, resulting in significant financial losses to the state. Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly colluded to insert non-existent names, commonly referred to as "ghost names" into the scheme’s database to siphon off monthly allowances.
The scandal, which came to light through internal audits and surveillance, reportedly spans several service regions, implicating private vendors contracted to manage biometric data systems and payroll processing.
All nine suspects are expected to appear before court next week. The case is expected to renew public interest in accountability and systemic reforms within the National Service Scheme.
