Political activist Solomon Owusu has strongly criticized the Electoral Commissioner responsible for overseeing the electoral process in the Ablekuma North Constituency, following the official’s decision to recuse himself before the conclusion of the process.
Speaking in a media interview, Owusu argued that the commissioner, having accepted the role, had a duty to see the process through to the end. He believes the abrupt withdrawal created unnecessary confusion and compromised the integrity of the electoral process.
“The commissioner should have been arrested immediately after recusing himself. This is a serious national responsibility. You don’t just walk away midway and expect everything to go smoothly,” Owusu said.
He further emphasized that prosecuting the commissioner would serve as a strong precedent, warning others who take up key electoral roles to understand the weight of their responsibilities. “We must ensure accountability at every level of our democratic process,” he added.
The incident has sparked concerns among stakeholders, with some calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recusal.
