The Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG) has called out the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its continued silence and inaction on the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, nearly six months after assuming power.
In a press release issued Wednesday, PAG expressed deep concern over what it describes as the NDC’s sudden shift in commitment to the bill , a bill the party strongly supported while in opposition. The group noted that the NDC had previously criticized the former NPP government for failing to sign the bill, vowing to take immediate action if elected.
“Now, nearly six months into the NDC’s administration with a clear majority in Parliament, the government’s silence on the matter is both troubling and disappointing,” the statement read.
PAG's National Communication Team Member and former Akatsi South parliamentary candidate, Donald Dzameshie, questioned whether the NDC is now bowing to the same international pressures it once condemned, or if its urgency on the issue has faded entirely.
The group is demanding a clear update on the status of the bill and a timeline for its passage and presidential assent. They insist that the matter goes beyond politics, emphasizing that it touches on national identity, sovereignty, and the cultural values of the Ghanaian people.
“The time for rhetoric has passed. The people of Ghana await action,” Dzameshie concluded.
The NDC has yet to issue an official response.
