Some residents of Old Weija in the GHreater Accra Region are expressing frustration and disappointment over what they describe as neglect by their Member of Parliament, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, following a recent flood disaster in the area.
According to the residents, a heavy downpour earlier this week displaced several families, destroyed property, and left many in dire need of support. In the aftermath, they claim to have reached out to their MP for assistance and intervention.
However, one outspoken resident told Best News Multimedia that Hon. Jerry Ahmed responded by saying he was currently tied up with his duties on the parliamentary vetting committee for Supreme Court judge nominees and could only attend to the community after those responsibilities were completed.
“We voted for him with the hope that he would be there for us in times of crisis,” the resident lamented. “But when we needed him the most, he told us he was too busy. People have lost their homes and are sleeping outside.”
The response has sparked anger and disappointment among locals who feel abandoned despite their electoral support for the MP.
While the MP is yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations, the development has reignited public debate about the responsibilities of elected officials and how they prioritize their constituents during emergencies.
Residents are now calling on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant bodies to step in and support affected families as they work to rebuild their lives.
