The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a crucial meeting with all its declared presidential aspirants as part of efforts to strengthen internal unity ahead of its upcoming presidential primaries. The gathering, scheduled for July 3, 2025, will bring together the aspirants, the party’s National Steering Committee, and the National Council of Elders to deliberate on matters of mutual interest.
A statement issued from the party’s headquarters in Accra on June 24, 2025, underscored the need to address growing concerns about factionalism and rule violations within the party. The meeting, according to the NPP, is aimed at fostering harmony and ensuring adherence to party regulations during the primary season.
In a related development, the party has referred its Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, to the National Disciplinary Committee. Abronye is accused of flouting a National Council directive by making what the party described as “unguarded public comments.”
Additionally, the NPP has ordered an immediate stop to all informal caucuses and associations of current or former party executives and government appointees who have been holding meetings with presidential aspirants in contravention of party rules.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who signed the statement, reminded party members of their constitutional duty to safeguard party unity, comply with decisions of party structures, and refrain from actions that could jeopardize cohesion as the primaries draw near.
