The Minority Caucus in Parliament is calling on the government to reconsider its decision to discontinue the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, a flagship industrialization programme launched under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the Minority, the decision to halt the initiative could severely impact hundreds of businesses and derail the country’s efforts toward decentralised industrial growth. They revealed that as of now, 322 companies are at various stages of implementation under the programme, with 169 of them fully operational and contributing to local job creation and economic development.

Addressing the press, the caucus expressed concern about the fate of these companies, warning that the abrupt discontinuation of the programme and its associated incentives could lead to factory closures, loss of employment, and the collapse of several local enterprises.

They called on the government to adopt a transitional approach rather than an outright withdrawal, urging authorities to provide a clear roadmap that supports existing businesses under the programme while reviewing or restructuring the policy if necessary.

The 1D1F initiative was introduced in 2017 to promote industrialization by establishing at least one factory in each district, with support ranging from financial incentives to technical assistance for entrepreneurs and private investors. The Minority maintains that the programme, despite its challenges, remains a vital tool for economic transformation, especially in rural areas.
