Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has issued a fiery reaction to viral photos of a South African gay couple who posed at several of Ghana’s national monuments in protest against the country’s proposed anti-LGBTQ legislation.
Describing the act as a spiritual provocation, Abronye warned that God’s wrath and anger may soon befall Ghana if the nation fails to take immediate steps to spiritually address what he called an “evil act.”
“By now, all religious bodies should be making sacrifices toward atoning for this evil act,” he declared.
The couple’s visit, which appeared to be a symbolic protest, has sparked national outrage among conservative groups and intensified debate around the controversial anti-LGBTQ bill currently before Parliament.
Religious leaders and traditional authorities are being urged by some to condemn the act and lead efforts to "cleanse" the land, while human rights activists argue for tolerance and the protection of personal freedoms.
