Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has hit back at New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong’s claims that wealth is key to leading the party and the nation.
Addressing over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at a meeting, Dr. Bawumia stated that being poor does not disqualify anyone from becoming President. According to him, while he may not be rich, he has “rich ideas and a rich mindset” capable of transforming Ghana into a great nation.
His remarks follow recent comments by Kennedy Agyapong to party constituency chairmen, where the Assin Central MP boasted of his financial muscle, claiming he could raise $7 million with a single phone call to fund the party’s internal elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s response highlights the growing tension between leading contenders as the NPP’s flagbearer race heats up.
