Xenophobic attack: We are sorry - SA to Ghanaians

South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa has rendered an unqualified apology to the president of Ghana for the assault on Ghanaians nationals during the xenophobic attacks in his country.

According to the delegation led by Special Envoy Jeffrey Thamsanqa Radebe, the xenophobic attacks do not represent the values of South Africa’s constitutional democracy and has therefore been condemned.

South African nationals turned the heat on citizens of other African countries; destroying properties and in some cases killed them in August and early September.

The citizens accused other African nationals of among other things taking their jobs.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, 3 Ghanaians were among the victims assaulted during the attacks.

As part of steps to maintain bilateral relations between both countries, President Ramaphosa sent the special delegation, to convey his apologies to Akufo-Addo and the Ghanaian citizenry as well as families of the victims.

  1. This a step in the right direction. The president did well by taking thus pragmatic step. I think Nigerians need a very special apology of this kind. He should go there himself with the team to specially apologise to the president and people of Nigeria. This will perharps heal some psychological wounds.
