Residents of Pillar 2 in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency can now stop complaining about the deplorable nature of their roads as rehabilitation works have started on a 7.5km road network in the area.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

The project, which is being undertaken by M/S ADT Construction Company Limited, at a cost of GHC 16.2million is being financed by the Government of Ghana and is expected to be completed in July 2020.

Addressing the residents at the ceremony on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Adwoa Safo said the commencement of the road project has brought her relief as she has had sleepless nights thinking about the plight of her people.

She expressed gratitude to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for directing the Finance Minister to release money for the rehabilitation of roads in the country.

“Despite the numerous calls on the previous government to as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate these roads, it all fell on deaf ears. Today, we are fortunate we have a listening and supportive President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has the ears to listen to the cries of his people. As a matter of fact, I am very elated that we are going to begin works on this major road today”, Adwoa Safo, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader of the Parliament of Ghana, told the crowd.

Other road projects that are at various stages of completion in the constituency include the Taifa-Burkina road, Atomic-Roundabout-Kwabenya-Abuom road, asphalting of Kwabenya-Abuom-Ashongman Estate road, and Musuku-Roundabout road among others.

Adwoa Safo, who is also the Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement said about 23 kilometres of roads would also be constructed under the Sinohydro Chinese facility as captured by the 2019 budget statement.

“As I speak, contractors have started working on some of these roads and it is my hope and belief that many more will also begin in the coming months”, she noted.

She appealed to the residents of the area to cooperate with the contractor to amicably resolve any inconveniences that may come their way.

She told the residents that other roads within the constituency which also need immediate works such as the Agbogba-Old Ashongman, Abokobi road, Pure Water roads and the Bohye (Narhman) roads will be addressed.

“I remain committed to continually lobby to have these road projects executed by the Government. My only plea is to urge residents to exercise patience and forbearance”, she added.

The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs. Janet Tulasi-Mensah, on her part thanked Adwoa Safo for her work.
