Produce more lawyers; good ones will stand out – Former NDC MP to GLC

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nantong Constituency in the Northern Region, Murtala Mohammed, has urged the General Legal Council (GLC) to produce more lawyers in Ghana because the good ones will stand out.

To the former MP, who also served as a Deputy Trades Minister, there have been deliberate attempts over the years to restrict the number of admissions into the law school which has shattered the dreams of many people.

“A lot of peoples’ dreams have been dashed because of how the system runs but if you teach students and they fail, you the lecturer share the blame,” he said.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV where he shared his personal law school entry experience, he described some questions asked during the entry interviews as funny and unnecessary.

“There are attempts to protect law as a prestigious profession in Ghana so when you go for the interviews, they used to ask a question as to whether you have a lawyer in your family and how you are going to finance your education but that is none of their business; they should just produce the lawyers and the good ones will stand out,” he said.
